Meet Aevias’ Director of Events, Michelle Clarke. Michelle’s career spans over 25 years through successful planning of local, national and international events and programs. Read on for a short interview with our Director of Events:
Favourite restaurant in Vancouver?: So many restaurants – but my favourite in Vancouver is La Quercia. So amazingly yummy!
If you weren’t event planning, what would you be doing?: Travelling and exploring the world.
What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?: Three career lessons is a tough one. I’ve learned a million lessons, and I’m still learning!
1. Confirm, confirm, confirm and be prepared for the worst case scenario. It is always better to ask questions for clarity and confirmation. Think of the unthinkable.
2. Sometimes it is okay to say no – prepare your event for success by ensuring what is proposed will work, and you won’t be left scrambling at the last hour to make things work.
3. Create time for learning and new experiences. Each new experience increases knowledge and breaks you out of your comfort zone.
Top tip when organizing food and beverage for an event?: Collect your dietary list and check it twice! Work with the chef to create options that will satisfy all dietary – why not make all options gluten free? Chef’s are usually willing to create and explore all of the possibilities!
What are your hopes for the Event Planning industry?: To become more sustainable – use renewable products, offer more plant based healthy food choices, creative communication tools and technology to contribute to a greener/sustainable future.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?: I enjoy meeting with and learning about different people and cultures. Each time you have a new experience or conversation, your mind grows just a little bit more.
Your top tip for planning a conference?: Partner with experienced suppliers that will bring value to your event.
Favourite destination you have traveled to with Aevias? What type of event was it?: Puebla, Mexico. The people in Puebla were amazing and it now feels like they are my Mexico family.
